Would this trailer work OK for a Kubota L3940?

Probably be OK. I'd want at least 5k axles, but 3500lb axles should be enough for you. Good brakes, pulls straight, and less than $2000 I hope?

Oh, the winch might run up the price... Worth a few hundred bucks.

That trailer is going to have a useful load of about 4,800# to 5,000#. It has to weigh in at 2,000# empty and its only got twin 3,500# axles, I can tell from the 5 lug wheels, for a total of 7,000#.

A L3940 weighs between 3,480# and 3,970#. That is with no loader so if equipped add 800# and if you have loaded tires do the math. Any implement on the 3 point is going to put you way over weight.

I think I would pass and get a 10K trailer or larger.

The price is not that good in my eyes, at least around here. You can get a new 20' trailer for maybe $500 more.

Also I bet its the original tires and deck. You could be into it for another $500 in tires and $300 in deck.

Heck then, Drive up to Daleville, IN and buy a new one... From what I have seen up here on CL, that is a decent price if it is in decent condition. It seems to vary a lot by region. I got my 16-footer for $1100 but had to put a couple hundred into re-wiring it and some lights. Deck still needs help, and it is just barely long enough for my L3130 with FEL.

If buying a new trailer I would take a trip to Sikeston, MO. Prices are right and its the midwest trailer capital.

One thing I have learned is trailers have to be one of the most regionally priced items out there. Being in Indiana where they build many boats and RV's trailers are cheap. I guess its because many of the components are made here.

At the end of the day the simple fact is it is probably not enough trailer for his needs, especially if equipped with a loader and any implement on the 3 point.

Thanks for the replies!

IN & MO are a too far from my FL location for what I'm after. Whatever trailer I get would be used "almost" entirely to transport the tractor from my parents' barn (where it stays) to my new property, a very rural 4-mile trip, only 2.3 of which is on a paved road. No hills at all, very flat.

I'm starting to lean towards: Just about any ol' trailer that won't collapse & drop the tractor will probably do.

Only 4 miles I would save my 2 grand and just drive it. I drive my tractor all the time 5 miles and it only takes maybe 15 minutes or so. It would take much longer to hitch up the trailer, put the tractor on it, strap it down, ect.

Even better yet use your money to build a storage building at your new place or even just get a shipping container delivered. You can put the tractor in that. They are secure and dry.

I've driven the 8-mile round-trip twice now, & I'm already not thrilled about it. Seems like a waste of tractor odometer hours. But that may still be the simplest choice.

However ... Good idea on the shipping container! I just now talked to my co-worker (he sells stuff on eBay, & keeps his inventory in those containers on his property), who got his containers at http://www.containersnow.com/index.php

I got Kubota's full-replacement insurance, so theft "shouldn't be" a big concern.

(BTW, my plan would be to just keep the tractor on the trailer when it's back home at my parents' barn, so there'd only be one off-load & one re-load each time I take it to my property to use it)

Look up SoundGuy on this site. He is a FL guy who just bought a trailer and did quite a bit of research finding the good dealers and deals in both FL and GA.

I am sure he could lead you to some good dealers.

I paid just a couple hundred bucks more for a 18 trailer a couple of years ago. $2000 seems high, but it also seems hard to find a nice one used. I think I would just enjoy the seat time and drive it also, and save the money. The only reason to trailer it would be if saftey on a busy road was an issue.
Don't worry about the hours on the tractor, they are pretty easy hours and under a light load.
