Tractor
John Deere 125
Im wondering if a john deere 2520 Would be a good tractor for about 1.5 - 2.0 acers of home/lawn??? We haven't built our new house yet but in the next few year we will be. but does anyone know if there will be any newer tractors that will be like the 2520 but a little more "updated" ???? Lemme know

The 2520 came out about 1.5-2 years ago and the 2320 came out about 1 year ago. That's a very short time in the tractor game. I seriously doubt either will be updated any time soon. Both have a large assortment of updated features. Both I believe are way overkill for 1.5-2 acre yard. Unless you have some other big landscaping projects in mind I'd look for something a little more compact. Even a 2305 is more than you really need, but many buy it because they like the deisel motor.

If I had a 2 acre house and home 'and wanted the ultimate toy' I'd probably get a 2305 decked out with a backhoe or similar style other make of tractor, loader, backhoe 'TLB'.

I have only 2 acers. and i have a 2520 with all the crap in my sig line.
and i use it like a tractor. I dont even have a mower deck. I have a GX lawn and garden tractor to mow with. :) Yes the 2520 is my big Toy i suppose. :D but boy can i get alot of things done. i been wanting to do for years. I plan on building a garage soon. and Johnny D is going to use his long arm. to dig me some footings...;)

The 2520 is a serious work tractor that is small and light enough to handle your lawn cutting duties. If you can afford the price jump from the 2305 up to the 2520 I'd say go for it. You won't regret having more tractor that you may ever need. Also, if you're building a new place, you'll prolly have a lot of landscaping requirements, and the 2520 will handle those a little better than the 2305.

As far as getting something that's a little updated...I'd say the 2520 is as cutting edge JDs get in the 2000 series.

You said it in a nutshell.... I don't mow around the house with my 2320 either. I have a Simplicity garden tractor for the acre and a half of lawn. And to be truthful, I'd rather use a machine the size of my GT to mow around the house with than my 2320. Just alot easier to get in and out of tight spaces. Not that the 2320/2520 are not good mowers, but we are only talking about 1.5 acres.

Search for posts by Shawk as he went form a 2210 to a 2520 then back down to a 2305.

I actually just had my 2520 delivered this week. I have been debating what tractor to get for almost two years now. I only have about 1 acre. I mow in front of the house with a push mower (we are close to the road) and the rest is woods. I plan on clearing out all the buckthorn and putting in some nice terraces and plant beds and you name it in the back. I wanted something with a loader. Looked at lots of brands, but settled on the 2305. It wasn't long and I realized the 2320/2520 have nearly the same footprint. So, I decided on the 2320 for the extra clearance and position control. Then I started to see all the posts by Chris2520 and just went for it all right away. I too didn't get a mower and will use it for tractor use. We actually are hoping to move to more acreage in 4-5 years, so I also kept that in mind.
Even if we don't move and I end up not using it that much I will not regret the purchase. It's been a dream for too long. I started a list of all the things I want to do and even at that I know I have enough to keep me busy for a few summers.
I read some advice on here one (don't remember from who) that if you are looking for a mowing machine with other capabilities get the 2305. If you are looking for a tractor that has mowing capabilities get a 2320/2520.

You won't regret it.

1 thing i dont like about is alot of thing, dont get mad at me you 2305 owners. but there is some stuff, like the limited cat 1 , little horse power Ect, Dont get mad at me 2320 owners, i like the 2320 and was once considering it but i like more hp and the hydro pumps ect. I am planning do do most of the work for the house, lot clearing, grading landscaping and if i have the confidence to do it, the foundation!!! I dont know. I like that new auto hitch, make me want one really bad now!!!

Speaking of 2520's . Johnny D got into a fight with 6 , 7 foot yellowbell bushes tonight. them suckers had 2 inch roots on them. it wasn't even
a good contest. :D it lasted all of 15 min. now thay all reside at the bottom of the property waiting for me to dig a big hole and bury them tomorrow.
didn't even haft to break out the hoe.....:( I like to play with the hoe.
just took the bucket and dug them right out. and i didn't even have the tooth bar on. I will get some good seat time tomorrow....:)
I am going to take the hoe and dig me a hole 6.7 inches deep about 8 feet wide and 10 feet long. and bury the bushes and some other junk i want to go away......;) then we are going to start on the drainage ditch in the from yard. i am filling it in . as i dont feel drainage is a problem there. then it wont be so hard to mow.;) just had three loads of topsoil brought in. so i am ready for work.:p

Chris.....:)
