Hey guys, my dad just had his driveway topped with this, i dont know what they even call it, theres alot of sand/dirt with rocks, mostly rounds ranging from sizes 1/2"-3",,, it was very reasonably priced for a tri axle load, i am thinking about topping my 600' driveway with it, but i want something than i can rip up with box blade scarifiers, and regrade periodically, i'm not sure how hard it will pack, they just did it yesterday, and it was frozen today, i have a 40hp tractor with a 5' box blade, 20181205_114047.jpeg20181205_114026.jpeg

Pit run?

This stuff will tend to shift around a lot unless it's very well packed.

Working it frozen might be messy, tend to rip and clump up (if there's sufficient moisture that is).

Cobble is nasty stuff
The Box Blade will pick the large rocks up and leave the fines
I may grab most of what your dad had put down.

I know this as river rock. By product of a sand plant. As a sub base it's useable. As surface material it's not. Problem is it's slick. So the stones are constantly shifting as you drive on it. Any incline makes this problem worse.

For reference:

Pit Run Gravel

Angular gravel (crush) is the only thing that'll want to stay in place (it locks together).
