If I had to choice it would be T8 twin lamp w/277 volt ballast, for they last longer and give off better lighting..but the fixture cost more than the F40CW.RS,also wire the fixtures to a 3 way swtich plus put them on there own circuit breaker.

Thomas, I think he means halogen 12v DC work light mounted on the rear fender with a rubber isolator which allows you to rotate light without scratching the paint and spliced into taillight hot wire and its own switch at the back or fed from other keyed hot wire inside the dash panel with switch mounted on the dash kind of worklight.

all connections soldered, liquid electrical taped and protected with heat shrunk tubing that is.

Bill,
Your right about the 277volt in one home for its not common, but it would make a grand lighting system.
I guess between the sleet and freezing rain yesterday my control box{brain /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif} must have gotten damp and started to short out /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.giffor I didn't read the post right. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

BTW where does one get 277v service from is it single line 480?
and what is the advantage of T8 tubes over t12?

Yep I made a boo-boo /w3tcompact/icons/blush.giffor I thought Tony wanted some work lights as in a shop.In the long run T8..277volt last longer and tad cheaper to use.In our chem labs you can see the lighting differents between T8 vs T12,the light is so much better.

Steve,
boy, i'm really showing what a dummy i am, but can i splice into the tail lights(mine are turn signals only), or do i need to hook directly to the battery? thanks :)

You only have turn signals? Whether turn signals or hazards you wouldnt want your work light blinking./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

To prevent accidentally leaving lights on and draining battery, you want to connect to switched hot wire behind dash, use test light to find.

If an aux. light was an option on tractor there might be a blank in your fuse block for that, if so fill it in with labeled size and find the new hot in bundle leading from block.

thanks again..yep, i suppose a blinking worklight wouldn't be smart :)
i'll try the other route. sorry for the dumb questions, but i just bought this used yanmar 1401d
and i'm new to the tractor business!
