Years ago I used to use the old V-belt dressing sticks, they were the size of a tube of grease and they worked well.

I have a home made splitter which I made in 1980, and still work very well and a recent addition a cordsaw which was old but well cared for. I cut the logs in the winter, haul them with my winch and then finish the cutting and stacking in the spring .
