Woods thumb seems poorly designed

IS it just me or is the woods thumb poorly designed? See the picture. It is super heavy duty Ill give it that, but doesnt seem to have enough "curl" - in fact seems curved in the wrong direction. and doesnt have aggressive teeth. Seems like everything I try and pick up gets pushed out. One idea I had was to move it up to the bucket link pin. Anyone every tried that?

It looks like the pin to adjust the thumb is missing on the thumb adjustment. I think the bucket moves the object to be picked up to the thumb rather than the other way around. Move the thumb down in the the picture and secure with a pin through the adjusting link.

Yes I know to put the pin in, this was just for the photo. If you google or look on youtube, you will see that most other thumbs seem to have a much better geometry for grabbing things.

You are right. The shape is not optimal.

One fellow added fangs to his thumb for better grip.

I agree. I used a rental jd with a thumb like that but it was hydraulic. I had to do a lot more curling with the bucket to grab up things. Having that goofy curve seemed to push things out of its grasp.

anyone ever tried moving it up to the link pin to get a bigger opening? Visually it looks like it should fit. Otherwise Ill have to try to modify it as it is just about worthless as is. Usually Woods is top notch, dont know how they messed this up.
