John,
You more than likely are right. Does Woods manufacture many of their own products ? Who makes these stump grinders Shaver/Woods or does some one else make them for Shaver/Woods ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Most of the "specialty" implements are Not made by these large companies such as Woods, LandPride, Bush Hog, etc.

However, they all have their forte'... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

When I'm at the next farm show, and they have both units, basically side by side... then we'll know for sure... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I will be waiting to hear the verdict on the stump grinders....
agdealer.com I was surfing this page the other day and seen a company that had a brushhog advertised that was black in color and eerily ressembled a JD 513,I e-mailed the company and asked them if they made the units for John Deere and they never replied............ /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That is correct, according to my local NH/Woods dealer. Shaver makes at least two sizes, the smaller of which would be ideal for my tractor. I was considering one, until I found out the price (about $4000). I just don't have enough stumps to justify that.

I'm thinking about getting one and thought I'd bump this post back up. Anybody own one now?

I want one! I did send off for the info pack from Shaver. I recommend it for grins if nothing else. Very helpful in showing the operation of the machine. Someday...

I've got dozens if not hundreds of stumps I'm sick of mowing around. I'm also cutting new roads/trails through the woods this winter so more stumps are appearing all the time. When conditions are good I try to pull the whole tree including the stump out but it's not always possible so I figured the stump grinder would be the answer.

Stump grinders are great items, but they can be dangerous to use and stumps take a lot of time to grind. If you have that many stumps, I would think that a dedicated stump grinder would be a better choice than one mounted on your tractor. The only problem with a stand alone stump grinder is the price, but when you see the type of engine that they use to drive the grinder part, you will understand. Like buying a tractor, you have to match the grinder with the size of the stumps that you need to remove. If you have a wooded lot with large trees, then a tractor mounted grinder is going to take a lot longer than one of the big stump grinders...

Attached is a photo of my Husky 272S stump grinder. It works extremely well on all size stumps and is much quicker than you might think. It is essentially a concrete saw that Husky modified to use a blade with about 3/4" carbide teeth. Unfortunately Husky is no longer selling them due to EPA issues on a low volume product.
