WOODS MULTI-SPINDLES: Where\'s the catch?

Hey, I want to maximize my cut width given a to-be-purchased tractor in the 40-45hp (35-40pto)range. I'd really like to go with 7', but everywhere i turn it seems that my range is 6. Then I saw these:

WOODS MULTI-SPINDLES
Model D80 & DO80 Belt Driven, Twin Spindle Rotary Cutters

Ok, not quite 7', but their requirements seem a whole lot less than other cutters.

Approximate weight 1,200 lbs.
Tractor HP 25 - 75

I want a cutter for pasture (25 acres)
So what's the catch? How does multispindle compare to single. Why such a big variance?

Dave, I think if you price one you will find at least one of the catches.

My personal opinion is that with a 40 to 45 hp tractor (35-40 pto), you'll do fine with a 7 foot single spindle brush hog. I ocassionally use a 6 ft behind my NH TC 40D without problem. Are you planning on letting the fields get extremely long or is the grass/weeds expected to get extremely thick? I think if you find you're bogging down a little, just mow a little more often or raise the deck up slightly or slightly lower your ground speed. I've seen posts suggesting a 6 ft, but none that actually have a 7 ft and have had problems. If there out there, I'd like to hear from them.

Sounds like you need to check into a 7' disk mower. It would probably much more adept at handleing your needs.
