Hello Folks,

I have just picked up a 3pt woods groundbreaker 7500, with self contained tank/PTO pump. The hoe has tons of power, zero leaks, and virtually no leak-down of any kind, seems to be in overall great shape. The problem I am having is with the boom control - there is virtually ZERO feather or control of any kind. It is like the valve is either 100% open full flow, or 100% closed. All other functions (swing, dipper, bucket) are exactly what I would expect and are perfectly manageable, but the boom issue makes it nearly unusable. Lowering PTO rpm does help slightly, but not much, it mostly just makes everything else painfully slow while not fixing the issue anyway. I won't say I'm a master, but I've run equipment my whole life and know this isn't just a "get used to the machine" type of thing. You literally can actuate the boom control away from you (boom down) with two hands, a millimeter at a time, as slow and In control as humanly possible, and nothing, nothing, nothing, SMASH the boom will fly to the ground as if you just shoved the stick away from you as hard and fast as possible. Then same thing pulling the stick back towards you to raise it. New UTF and filter with no change (didn't really expect one, but hey first things first). I will say that if the dipper is fully actuated in one way or the other while using the boom the problem is substantially reduced (due to less flow I'm sure), but it can't be "right" the way it is, I meant it would be downright dangerous to try and gently set something in the back of a truck, etc. Are there any adjustments, valves, spools, restrictors, etc that could be causing this that could be adjusted or swapped out? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you all in advance.

Chris

I'd start with the control valve.
Maybe a broken or clogged pilot/proportioning seal or spring?
Maybe J_J can comment?

With no power applied, does the boom spool work normally, as in the spool moves the same in up and down lever.

Are there restrictors in the other circuits.

You might check the centering springs in the cans on the bottom of the spool. There should be normal spring action, which will bring the lever to spool center.

The spool is what meters out the fluid to the cyl, and it should not jump full open with a little movement of the lever.
