JD2520 and JD455
Hi

I currently have a JD2520 with a factory JD model 46BH. It's a straight boom 6.5 foot BH and for what it is does OK. However, for any kind of trenching work its kinda, well, not very productive. The combination of straight boom and small size means that for a 1.5 to 3 foot deep trench you gotta mess around and move the tractor forward about every 4 to 5 feet of trench. The straight boom does not allow digging very close to the back of the tractor. Deere makes curved boom BH's for the subcompacts and the larger 3000 and 4000 series but not for these small frame 2000 series.

So, my questions are for anyone with Woods GroundBreaker-X BH's. Does anyone know if they make a subframe/4-point mount system for the JD2000series tractors? I assume you can power a Woods from a tractor's power-beyond system. I suspect the BH-80x would be too big for the 2520, but does anyone know the weight of the 70 and 80 including subframe/4-point mounts? Anyone out there have any of the Woods BH's on any of the small frame JD's (755/855, 4110/4115, 2320/2520)?

If I was making a living at this and doing a lot of trenching a mini excavator would be on my trailer but for occasional stuff I'm just wondering if If could get some slightly better productivity and I'm sure a curved boom would help for other digging too.

Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

I guess I'm getting tired. I also intended to ask the question of who out there has these BH's on other tractor brands similar sized to the JD2000's (like Kubota B2630/B3030/B7800, MF1528, small Mahidras, etc). That's why I posted over here. I've not seen much mention of the Woods BH's over in the JD forums.

I've got a BH70X on a Kioti CK20, which is around the same size as your machine, although I don't know how it compares weight wise. My CK20 weighs 2000 lbs. without anything at all added to it. Weight with loader and backhoe is pushing 3800 or so. I think the backhoe with installed subframe weighs about 1000 lbs.

There are many folks that have the Woods BX70x on Kubota B7610's,B7600's, B2630's, and B3030's and fewer folks that have the Woods BX80x on B7800's, B2630's, and B3030's. All seem to be satisfied with the arrangement that they have. I didn't see a Woods subframe listed for your tractor, and the BX70-80x backhoe, but did see it for the BX6000 in this list provided by Woods. Perhaps I overlooked it since it can be a bit hard to read.

I have the BH70X on my B7610. I have the 4 point subframe for it. There is NO problem with the tractor running this. I generally run it at 1800 - 2000 RPM when digging or trenching.....plenty of power. Just recently dug a 300 foot trench for som electrical work. I'm guessing my weight to be about 3000lbs with the loader, hoe, subframe and loaded tires.

I have a B-70X on my Mahindra 2015, which is about the same size as a 2520 (but less HP). The weight is about the same as the Kioti Mentioned in the previous post.

My tractor handles it very well, and I'm glad I bought it. I have a subframe mount. Not sure how they mount them on a Deere.

I have the BH80-X on my B3030. Runs great but sure is on the "edge" - tractor certainly wouldn't be able to handle anything bigger. She'll pop a wheelie if you hit the gas hard going up a hill w/ an empty loader.

For occasional use, why take the $$$$ hit on getting a new hoe for your machine? Personally I'd either take the extra time with your hoe or rent a nice mini-ex when needed.

Attached is the woods brochure - for some stupid reason they seem to keep taking stuff off their website instead of adding it:confused:

I had the Bh 80x on my 3030 (just traded it to Ductape for his chipper) - loved the combo, but even with loaded tires could easily chuck the tractor around with the hoe. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat, but you are slightly overpowering the 3030 and need to be aware - not sure how your JD compares in size.
