Woods BB72X, Help Needed With Blade Replacements

I had the blades replaced with oem 57189KT blades and hardware, by an experienced tractor mechanic.
With the new blades on, PTO engaged, it is generating a lot of metal to metal type noise.
When checking the blades I notice a lot of play in the up and down motion in the blades.......is this normal?
Any other thoughts on what the problem may be or what to check?

Where is the play? If it's only the blades and not the hub then it sounds like the wrong blades and/or hardware was used. Or there's not enough shims on the pins. There should be little movement up and down at the blade. The blades use pins and locks. Shims are used to take up space behind the hub. Make sure the blades can rotate without hitting the body of the mower. If they do, they're the wrong blades.

Thanks for the response. I just doubled checked the part numbers for the blades, and the blade pin and verified those are the correct part numbers for this cutter.
Your point about the shims seem to be a point to double check as I was watching when those were installed, and there was appeared to be little pressure holding the blade/blade pin in the upward position when installing the shims, keyhole plate, pin lock clip, and cap screw.
Another point of concern, when he finished the install he said on one blade there was no shim installed (these are the original blades, never been removed). And the other side only required one shim.

The shims are used to make up the difference between the thickness of the blades and hub. There could be variances in the pins too. Clearance should be checked and the need for shims verified each time the blades are removed or replaced. I guess the shim idea alleviates the need for precision machining of parts.
