Thanks to all for the great posts. I've decided to go with the Woods Brush Bull 72 (standard duty) over the BB720 (medium duty) for following reasons:

1. Newer "brush bull" series standard duty cutter is much improved over older series "XT". I.E., 10" longer, 25 hp increase in gear box, 1.8" increase in deck side depth, added stump jumper, +150lbs, slip clutch standard. In fact, the newer model Brush Bull standard duty is almost as HD as older model medium duty (MD172).

2. I was concerned with the added wight of the medium duty, sinces much of my work is in steep hills.

3. 1" is probably the biggest stuff I'll ever be cutting.

I value heavy duty equipment, as several of you mentioned, but the medium duty is a little overkill even for me.

Thanks again for the imput.

Kodiak,

Thanks for the kind words!

The box blade is a "Gannon Landscaper" Model H-120. It has a manually lowered scarifier bar. Not quite as nice a a hydraulically actuated unit like some, but still nice. The box blade is pretty much along the lines of "overkill", but that's me....

Mark99,

Good Call on the BB72. As you probably noted, the BrushBull is at the top of my list for rotary cutters. You should have many years of loyal service.

John Miller,

On your question of blade changes and removal. I usually remove and dress the blades 2-3 times a season, more when cutting over old trail or if I chew on too much granite. It's so easy, it's almost fun! Especially when compared to one that really needs a 6' breaker bar. I only got to use the original set of blades for about 30 hours before they were recalled by Woods and replaced for free, so I don't know about long term blade life. They had only been dressed once and were ready for a 2nd touch up when the recall notice came.

Final post. You guys are right. Don't let yourself be talked into a light duty. I bought the BB72 (standard duty) after the dealer convinced me the BB720 was too much for my TC45D. After using it for 10 hours, it will do the job, but I would probably have been happier with the medium duty.

Has the blades for the BB72 changed since 2003? The new blades I got from my dealer are 26.5 inches long. My blades I took off to replace are 23 inches long. (measured from center of the hole). The new ones hit the side of the cutter.
