Wooden bumper with toolboxes

This is the prototype. I just threw this together yesterday to see how stout the bumper would be and how useful the toolboxes would be. So far so good. I plan to make another bumper out of a new 4x6 and paint everything. Looks kind of tacky on a new tractor.

h-m-m-m, just a thought, but you could make it out of 5" pipe or so, fill it with concrete for a front weight, and still have your boxes etc on it. Don't know how much weight you would add off the top of my head, but its a thought.

Yeah, I wanted a metal bumper but I don't know how to weld but I do have a chain saw and drill. I was supprised as to just how strong the bumper turned out to be. Anyway, all I plan to push over is corn stalks when I bush hog the corn patch.

I might want more weight later (just got the tractor last week). The good part is that three bolts hold it on so it can be easily removed.

I like it. It is functional and versatile. You can reinforce it, if necessary, with flat stock, angle iron, or square tubing, with only a hacksaw and drill.
I remember when tow trucks had push bumpers made from 2x12 lumber, backed with steel.

just for additional thought, you can use the pipe with threaded ends and put the caps on it...drill the holes for mounting bolts, etc. Its one of those things that you can do as you 'find' the necessary items, not as an immediate thing. What you've done will definately work for the purpose you've made it for, and THAT is what counts! It don't look bad, is definately functional and looks pretty decent!

Hi ya
On the same lines ya could make one out of steel box 4x6 and have a tap top and bottom for adding more wiegh just add water **note only use dead full or dead emtey water moving around could upset handling**a nother good thing to add is a 1 gal container with tap of soapy water to keep hands clean but all in all what ya have done is cool if it dose the job ya want it to do who cares

Good job...

You can still have some metal... drill a few holes for "U-Bolts" to hold the steel bumper up against your 2X12 PT...

like jd kid said.....if it works......who cares....

wooden bumper is better...if ya push stuff.....what ya pushing.....ie jump starting a vehicle.........will be less likely to chip paint and ding it......plus........chicks dig scarrs.....
