This old splitter was way to low so I built a 2x4 and plywood stand for it. I'm working at waste level now. The loader does all the lifting. My back loves it.

Bending over constantly is by far the worst part of splitting wood! Looks like you've got a cheap and effective solution!

Oh gosh, that low splitter certainly would be a pain in the back to use!

Your use of the loader is one disadvantage of a 3pt mounted splitter :)

Nice work! Obviously very well thought out, sturdy, and portable. I imagine the 'upgrade' will pay for itself every few face-cords.

I have a very similar setup, My splitter was not low but picking logs up killed my back by the end of the day, I used cinder blocks and 4X6 fence posts and made a platform on each side of the splitter. I use the tractor to load up the platform with logs then as I split I put the split wood in the loader bucket. I now have a stool that i sit on while splitting.

I use a homemade hookaroon when splitting firewood. I can push, pull, roll and drag the rounds. For lifting I strike the end of the round and lift. This tool is also a back saver. It has a forward spike and I stick it in the ground so it sits upright in the work area. Very little bending over when working. I split wood a few weekends ago. I was able to work all the rounds except for about 6 rounds that were super heavy.
