Wood Splitter Hydralic Pressure Low

The splitter hydralic tank was milky and decided to clean it out and put in new fluid and filter. Lines were emptied and tank before refilling. When began to operate the hydralics, the shaft seemed slower moving and would not build up enough pressure to split the wood it would normally have split before the refill. The filler cap was also blown off the tank and fuild burst out of the tank filler hole.

A look at the fuild in the tank showed it to be white again and milky after running for about 10 minutes. Any thoughts on what needs to be done? Is there air in the system, and if so, how do I remove it?

If the fluid was emulsified really good, then ty probably have a good coating on everything in the hyd system.

You might also clean out the tank really good, and try and get all old fluid out.

You will still have some residue throughout the hyd system, but it should be less.

You might try adding in some Seafoam to help absorb the water and flush out again.

After 4 or 5 cycles, the air should gone, unless you have a leak in the suction hose, Check and tighten same

New filter also.

After everything is cleaned up and fresh fluid installed, install a gage and check and or reset the relief, and use the gage to monitor the hyd system.

Sounds like the pump is sucking air. Check the suction line and anything else between the pump and tank.

Thanks to all the suggestions on dealing with the low pressure and air. Found out there is no air problem in the hydralics and thought the pump wasn't working so I pulled it. Guess what. It wasn't working because the coupling from the engine which uses a narrow key in the pump drive shaft had a damaged key. the drive coupling was spinning on the pump drive shaft. Replaced the key and re-installed the pump and it works great for an 11 year old splitter.

The title was a little misleading. Low, you had no pressure, no flow.

I don't have a way to check the pressure but the ram moved slowly and with low pressure, then it stopped altogether. Think we fixed it by replacing the key in the pump shaft which was broken. Thanks for you help.
