Just had the propane tank topped off for the year $1.40 gal.We only use about 425 gal. per year since we heat our home with a wood pellet stove.Tractor supply has there wood pellets on sale here locally for $199.50 per ton. We ended up buying 3 tons, still had 4 ton left over from last winter.TSC sale is now thru july 27th for wood pellets for those who are interested.

I guess we better look at getting ours, we burned just over 4 tons last year at $240 a ton... still probably half the price of propane.

Thanks for the reminder. We converted from pellets to propane about 15 years ago when I traveled full time for work and my wife was tired of pellets. If we are careful of when we fill the tank, we do okay, but if we forget and get it in the fall/winter, it gets expensive.

Propane prices around here started to get crazy about 10 years back. One of the reasons we heat with the wood pellets.Last winter propane prices hit the $4.00 gal mark,YIKES.

I have always used the Ozark Hardwood Pellets. OHP

Local TSC carries those so I need to check the price.

Hmmmmm...... I use 100% electric here - water heater, wallboard heaters, etc, etc. Pellets are $295/ton and higher for the good ones and propane is $3.15/gallon. Electricity is 4.57 cents/kW.

Must be nice. Pellets here range from $199 to $275/ton. My last electric bill worked out to $0.15762/kw.

I am total electric here in Tn. but the electricity is running $0.11/kw with all the TVA fuel surcharges and customer fees added on.:(

Yes, mjonesnh, but I'll bet its still cheaper to be all electric, in your case. When we moved here 32 years ago, and I was a lot younger, we fell trees and got 6+ cord of firewood and heated with that. That went on for about ten years then we went to pellets(@ $95/ton) and that lasted another ten year. Then pellets skyrocketed and we turned on our electric heaters and have been that way for the last ten years. Our winter electric bill is a little less than half what it would cost to heat with pellets.

Pellet prices have gone sideways the last 10 years for sure.I can remember pellets 10-12 years back for $99 per ton.I have done the math and pellets verses 4-5 tanks of propane per year save me many $$.

I just bought my own Propane Tank (500 gallon) and got installed regulators and Teed into my rental tank with the 400 gallons of propane is ran 1580.00... Not bad for a 500 Tank, 400 gallons of fuel and all the install/delivery/setup fee's. If anyone wanst to know company let me know I can get 50 buck referral fee!~ ":D Me and neighbor BOTH bought ours for 4th of July special. The are all over upper mid west and up into N. East.
