Hi all,
We have a Kubota DC 1217 wood chipper and jammed it with a log too dense for it to handle. The machine started emitting black smoke everywhere and smelled like burnt rubber. I am pretty sure we blew a belt in there. Does anyone have any experience with these machines?

Not with that particular machine, but I've "smoked" my Jinma a number of times. Just a little smoke and shut 'er down. Didn't have to replace a belt.
If that's actually an Altec DC1217 w/ a Kubota 73HP engine that's a lot bigger than my Jinma. Probably need a few belts replaced if it let a lot of smoke out.

Why does the OP's question remind me of this?

No experience with that model but suspect you burnt the belts that connect the engine to the chipper. Time to remove some shields and investigate.
