Wives and tractors

My wife has got pretty good at running the tractor, she moves it for me and I even trust her to back up to a plow or implemnt while I attach it. She especially is handy when I'm on the 3pt. hitch back-hoe attachment because I don't have to get off to pull up, we can dig fairly fast trenches that way. Problem is, women don't always understand the danger of equipment. Recently my wife was using the bucket to rake Magnolia leaves up in and was hauling them down in the woods when she had a bucketfull. It worked pretty well till she ran under the tree and the roll-bar/ ROP hung a big limb. After breaking out the limb she tried goin under the other side and broke out another big limb. Luckily her nor tractor, especially her was not hurt. I explained to her that the limb could have fell on her, could have flipped the tractor had the loader not been atached or it could have pulled the limb down and choked her or broke her neck. She was pissed for awhile but then realized the danger she put herself into. As far as the tree goes, two less big limbs just means less leaves to get up, I'm glad she's O.K. You would think she might have looked up after hitting the one. She's O.K and I had supper cooked that night so it all worked out, just remind your women how dangerous things can be on a tractor, especially when they get to feelin real comfortable at doing them.

Sounds like you got a real willing helper there.... I'd keep her... and, she'll learn, as we all (hopefully) have, the equipment and how to run it... sooooo glad she and the tractor were not hurt.... and, sounds like the tree will recover from the surgery /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

On the contrary, my wife has what I would consider an overdeveloped sense of danger when it comes to my tractor. She's actually very handy when it comes to operating the loader, 3 pt., etc. when I need her. The biggest problem is that she's very carefull and very timid (aka SLOW).

That leads to some tense conversations when I am holding 200 pounds of a 400 pound implement she's checking and double checking that it's really the lever on the left (Is that my left or your left?"..."We're facing the same direction. We both have the same left right now..." "Did you say right"..."No Left!"..."Do I pull it back or push it forward?", etc.)

I will admit, however, that prefer her timid and slow than careless and reckless.
