With or without cab

I'm looking at a used tn85a no cab with 160 hours and a tn75s (super steer) with cab and 600 hours. My use will be about 50% field work and 50% wooded hunting land brush hogging. I had about 40 of 200 acres in East Central Minnesota logged and the aspen is getting to the point that I need to get after it.

I plan to get a loader and 84" brush hog. What is the opinion of these two units and what do you think they are worth? I'd also like some input from the guys that have been in the woods with a cab.

a TN85 is physically bigger than a TN75
also a TN85 has a 4 cylinder and the 75 has a 3 cylinder turbo.

The super steer is cool, but it limits you on loader choices and it's one more thing to break.
What transmission in either?

I'd get the cab (I did actually), it's VERY NICE.

The 75 transmission is 16x16 and is an 2003 model. I'm told it was used to run a bat wing mower and the owner traded it in on a new one which he does every few years. So it sounds like it hasn't been used that hard to me.

I'm leaning towards the cab and it sounds like they want about 30 with the loader. How does that sound??

a brand new TN75 with a cab and loader is 40+, so 30 isn't bad
600 hours is barely broken in.
heck you don't even have to change hydralic fluid til 1200 hours. (utility tractors rock in that respect)

I've had both a TN75S and a TN75D with loaders. I traded the TN75S for the D because the S with the short wheel base was pretty darn unstable with the loader. When the axle swivels, it's almost like you are on a trike tractor with the wheel aiming the right direction to let the tractor roll. Couple that with the way the loader jumps the opposite way you steer at low speed when the axle swivels and I found SuperSteer and loaders pretty incompatable on the TN line. It does not seem to be as bad on either the TC or larger tractors. Try the TNS with loader and try some precise manuvering like trying to load a truck close to the cab without hitting the cab. Also try the TNS with loader on uneven ground.

Andy - thanks for your input - I'm a bit confused as the spec sheet from New Hollands web site lists the 75DA 4WD as having a 81.3 wheel base and the 75SA 4WD as having a 93.5 wheel base, and widths are listed the same?? Is it the super steer creating the problem. Anyone else have this experience. Thanks - Dan

the super steer lengthens it
so it's longer, but turns tighter (albeit oddly)

The Supersteer is a great system if you do a lot of turning (like row crop farming, orchards, vineyards or raking and tedding). I have not heard of any problems as a result of the Supersteer failing. If your main use is mostly working in tight areas then the supersteer is great. If you main use is the loader you will want a regular front axle.

Now that I think about it, just buy them both and enjoy the finer points of both machines

Well......I went to look at the TN75S and low and behold, there was a TL100A parked right next to it. As I have a bit of a bigger is better mentality, I decided that since a 4 bottom plow is currently pulled by an old Massy (that has seen better days), the TL100 could come to the rescue. So I got the TL100A with FWD, cab and loader on front, and 84" brush hog on the back.
