Wire winder

For lack of a better name. I have several spools worth of electric fence wire I need to remove and wanted a means to do so in a somewhat controlled manner so I spent a Saturday morning building this.

Most all of the parts were laying about the shop with the only exception being the sprocket hub I bought. Started out with the square tubing, marked the location of the bearing holes, stuck it in the mill and drilled/milled both sides during the same setup. Didn't have a 1-1/4" drill bit so milled the shaft hole square and larger than necessary.

Since I don't have an endless supply of identical spools to fit the winder, I added a locking collar that forces the spool to the outer round plate that acts as the drive. That is affixed to the shaft with a screw and drift pin to lock it in place. There is another screw in a milled slot so that I can adjust it to catch other styles of spools.

my original plan was to use a hydraulic motor that I have along with the power beyond. I decided that I wanted to save that motor for some future project. And I really didn't want to make it into that big of a project. The handle is about 13" long. I had a strand hang up on me and it pulled the tractor back a few feet before it came loose. Decided to lock the brakes after that.
