Boy could we use some of that rain here as the brooks and rivers are so low .

Here too. We are short 3" of rain this month alone. That will be 30" of snow when it comes later--as it usually does.

Still not anywhere as cold as it was during the Revolutionary period. Then the Hudson River froze so thick they were able to bring cannons across it.

As cold as it was last year, it still wasn't cold enough long enough to freeze the stream (they call it a river, but I think that's an unrealistic aspiration) in the back of my property think enough to walk on for more than a couple of days.

It would take you a month to clear my drive with an FEL and back blade. You're right though - we didn't have any ultra-cold periods last year. We did hit -20F both two and three years ago during a cold snap. However, it got cold very early (epic early season skiing), stayed fairly cold all winter, then continued to stay cold 6 weeks longer than usual. I used more heating oil last year than I have since I lived here in 1990. It was one of those winters that makes you seriously consider moving south...at least until July hits and you start jonesing for ski season again...

I'll take another 1978-79 winter please. We have a lot of people who have moved here in the last 10 years and we have not had a "normal" winter until last year. Boy you should have heard the complaining. I'm out of wood, should have put more up. I'm snowed in, plow your drive more than 3 times. Now we need a good old fashioned blizzard just to bring them back to reality. CJ
