Getting old. Sold the ranch. Sold the tractors. Moved back to the city.
Bought this 1951 Super A yesterday.

Runs fine, pto and 3pt work OK. Has good rubber, new clutch 2 years ago, minor leaks, ammeter needs to be replaced.

I'll clean it up, check the wiring and rewire if necessary and repaint.

$1300.

Need to find a rear-facing pto shaft assembly so I can use my 4-ft Yanmar RS-1200 rototiller.

We sold one of those a few months ago. I think ours was a '51 as well. We sold ours, in a little better condition, for $2000.

Also, those rear wheels look weird. Not just because they're spaced. They just look different, kinda small.

Interesting. The tractor appears to be level front to back. I'll check the tire size.

Looks like a good deal. If I was a rich man I would have too many tractors. But since I am not, I only have three.I sure would like to own that one though.

Nice buy! The sheetmetal looks nice and straight. Is an A close in size to a BN? An old neighbor had a BN( and unfortunately, fatally rolled it over in a ditch checking the cows). He got alot of service out of that tractor.

Nice find! I looked for one for a long time, they usually go around $2k around here.
Also be sure the right side is weighted down to counter the engine offset. The right wheel (Cast) is different that the left.

Nice SA...is the steering tight?? (it can be an issue with the offset models). Now you need to find a set of cultivators for the front..I've got a '74 140 with key start with the 1pt Fasthitch/ 1bottom plow, Mdl 251 two row planter, chains for the rears, cultivators, etc. One of the best truck farming/tobacco tractors ever devised. As far as the rears, the right rear wheel is cast and weighs about 150 lbs or so..its cool that the wheel have been set out as well..I did that to mine also. Rear tire sizes went from 9.5 in. to 12.4in. on the same rims...the larger tires make it set a tad higher and will give you and honest 15MPH in high gear. (I've got the 12.4in Goodyears on mine). Good luck and keep the pics coming. BobG in VA

Steering seems to be OK. Seller included tire chains in the deal. I need the sicklebar mower more than I need cultivators. That's what attracted me to this deal along with the fact that I've wanted to own a little Farmall for a long time. Have a 7-acre hayfield that will need mowing, raking and baling once the rain comes and things start growing around here again.

The B is the same as an A, except:
B is narrow front
B has a wider axle on the left side.

On an A, the final drives basically bolt up to the side on the tranny on the left side. The right side has an axle tube that sticks out a couple feet; the seat is mounted on top of it.

I'm far from an expert on IH, but as memory serves me, ALL B's are narrow front and were otherwise, same as the A. Seems like I've heard the B is fairly rare relative to the A.

.

Been researching that mid-mount sicklebar mower. Looks like it's a McCormick AI-23 highway mower. These mowers came in 5, 6 and 7ft cuts and fit the Farmall A and Super A tractors.

If this mower works OK in the ditches along the county roads, I'll bet it will do a good job cutting my hayfield.

Sorry about that. Was rearranging the photobucket album when I messed up the original links to the photos.

Are you interested in selling the plow for fast hitch? My great-grandfather had a 140 and we are trying to recreate the scenario. He had a 1 bottom, but all we could find was a two bottom. We are in southern MD so we're not to far away from you.

Also-
Yes the A/Super A are the same size as B/BN. But the B was tricycle, with offset seat. The A was widefront w/ offset engine,

Actually, I'm in the process of "restoring" the 1pt plow and plan on keeping it...I would however consider selling the 2 row 1pt planter (has a bunch of additional plates for it as well). Regards, BobG in VA

Is the serial nummber on your tractor close to the serial number on the motor? I'm trying to determine the year of the Farmall A that I recently purchased but the serial number tag is missing.
