Winter driving

/ Winter driving #41
To the OP's original point as well.
With advent of the all season tire, front wheel drive, etc, this went out of fashion. Actually, some say the all season tire does little very well, but does all things so so. YMMV.

All season tires are not necessarily snow tires. They have to have the snowflake or mountain emblem on them to be considered snow tires. Lots of people also confuse All Terrain tires with snow tires.

But, I agree - true studded tires work so much better. I have a friend in Michigan who says they aren't legal there, tho.

Around these parts, it snows about 1-2x per year. People still drive the studded tires from November until April, tearing up the roads the entire time. Every try to stop suddenly on dry pavement with studded tires? All of a sudden they don't work quite so well as regular tires.

Ah, well, can't win 'em all, and we've all done stupid things in our lives.
