Bif: It was probably the big blow from several years ago when HILLARY was in town during her campagin to be senator from NY, where she promised 100,000 new jobs to Western New York. That was almost as big a blowhard comment as the 93 mph wind.

I think since then we've lost almost that number of jobs.

For those considering a new roof like HeeHaw, the option that we went with our new home is an architectural shingle with I believe a 110mph wind warranty for about the same cost as the shingles with the 70mph wind warranty. The shingle is from Owens Corning and is called the 'Duration' shingle with 'SureNail' 'technology'. The local Menards carried them, but they are available elsewhere too.

The wind we had was noticeably straining/wanting to bend our 16' garage door with reinforcing struts on every section. It was bad enough that I sure didn't want to be in the garage in case that thing let go. Not a single shingle or shingle piece lost. Life is good!

As far as politicians and blowing hot air, I learned more than I think I wanted to from the attached voters guide.

had fires up at the old Army base, Ft Chaffee: burned a bunch of buildings: they were the old wwII barracks that needed to be torn down, but couldn't because of asbestos, or so the rumor went.

I was the Director of Information Management for both Fort Sill and Fort Chafee, back when we were running the BRAC and closing it. Not only did the WWII Barracks have tons of asbestos, the telephone wiring was old lead cable! So it takes a long time with the rules about those two products to tear anything down. I am not susprised they are still not done, once it got transfered over "off Army roles" you know it lost visibility and budget and do most of those type projects.

Winds here were in the 54 max, losts a few shingles and a few branches off old oak trees. As soon as it warms up a bit, over 60 will get up and replace them, no since doing it until the tar will set. No rain soon so no hurry.

i didn't know they made a shingle like that, i will be checking an see if they are available around here.thanks

just got back from Lowes, and they don't have the shingles rated at 110mph, their architectual shingles are rated at 70mph winds, and cost $50.70 per square: i have found a place i can buy metal roofing, pretty sure its 26ga: for $60 a square..i'll make sure on that ga of metal and still do a little more syphering before i put the new roof on.

Snow don't burn.

There's trouble in Paradise...
The fires in Paradise, TX were all around the place where Kathy and I got married. As far as I know, the building did not sustain any damage.

what is the best way to fix those shingles that come off. we had some gusts of wind the other day that tore two off our a-frame.
just tar and stick the shingle down?

I've used roofing adhesive, but last roof I did was on a shed I built about 20 years ago, & I used plain old cheap silicone on the last ridge cap (no nails!). We moved 3 years ago & tore the shed down (2.5 years ago before selling the old house) that shingle was still attached, & had never come loose.

It's a sorry pic, but you can see the shed in front of the yellow car in the attached. The siliconed shingle was the one on the far right, closest to the camera.
