My wife and I both have laptops - mine is older with Windows XP and hers is new with Windows 7. She managed to update her Windows Live Mail to 2011 and this has created problems. She can't email pictures out of Picasa anymore. Instead it wants her to sign up on some Windows Live account and publish the pictures somewhere. This sucks, she has learned to email out of Picasa and does not want to do it this way.

Another problem is that the emails she receives display very small. I have played around with settings and have not been able to fix this either.

Any ideas? There aren't really too many email clients to choose from out there. I have tried Thunderbird a couple years ago and didn't like. Never liked Outlook for home. I liked Outlook Express, but it was subject to losing all your emails and it won't run on Windows 7 anyway.

Alan,
Thunderbird has changed quit a bit in the last two years. Give it another look.

Aah, yes, Alan. I, too, am a victim of Windows Live Mail. It's an abomination as far as I'm concerned. Outlook Express was just fine for me, but now that I've downgraded (yeah, I know they call it an "upgrade") from Windows Vista to Windows 7, no more Outlook Express.

I uninstalled the entire Windows Live Essentials and managed to locate and download Windows Live Mail 2009, so she is back in business. A better email client is in the future I think - will look at Thunderbird again.
