Kubota L4610 HSTC, International 2400, Hesston 1280,
We would like to test the relief bypass pressure on our L4610. It is over 10 year old & has had the hydraulics worked very hard. 2200 hours on meter.

I was thinking we might take the 3000 psi gauge off our oxygen regulator & check with it, but noticed it said "use no oil" on the face.

Would it damage the gauge, or what kind of test gauge is necessary to test with?

The real danger is when the oxy meets up with an oil saturated gage, you could get a fire or explosion.

Using a oxy gage on a hyd system is less dangerous, but you really need a 3000 psi liquid filled gage.

Here are two kits that you can make.

The gages are only about $15

Donot, under any circumstances, us a oxy regulator guage to check any kind of oil pressure. Especially if you ever plan on putting the guage back on a oxygen tank. One drop of oil in oxy regulator can result in blowing the top off your oxytank as soon as you turn the tank on. The friction of the oxygen under high pressure, such as a full oxy tank, is enough to to ignite the oil inside the regulator. I have a buddy that only has one hand now because of using a oil soaked regulator. As soon as he turned his oxy tank on, the valve blew off and took his hand with it. Whether or not this would happen to you just isnt worth the risk to find out. Spend the $15 and build the pressure tester that JJ described.

Thanks, everybody, you taught me something today.

We went to Harbor Freight & purchased a 5000 PSI, liquid filled gauge today for 12.99.

Checked my pressure & it was 2400 PSI, which is in specs. I guess my old tractor is holding up better than we suspected.

Just for more information. I presume the danger comes from using any guage, liquid filled or not, after having used it in a oil application? Is this correct.

Next question. In order to be safe, maybe one should never use any guage from another application, then on oxygen? Yes? No?

That is true. Never use a gage unless you know it is new and had only been used for oxygen, or there is a label printed on the oxygen gage.

In naval aviation and probably elsewhere, they had restrictions about people with face hair and using oxygen because of the oil that collected in the beard. There were several face fires attributed to oil and oxygen.
