I found a great deal on a FEL ($600). The loader is for a Ford 2000.

Will it fit my 336D?
If so, how much modification it will require?

I don't mind doing a bit of welding, but I'd prefer limit it to a minimum amount, not fab an entire mounting set.

I'm jonesing for a FEL for my beast. Even if the FEL won't fit my tractor, at this price I'm hoping to be able to trade it for one which does.

A side benefit is he also has a finish mower for $200.

The bad news.. he lives 5 hours away, which will cost me $170 in fuel. I still think the price is worth it, as local front end loaders tend to run $1500+, which is well outside my price range. Any opinions?

This may not particularly help you, but there are two different Ford 2000 tractors, which tractordata describe as being "entirely different" from one another.

I would speculate that loader should be an acceptable match in size. Whether it's worth it or not to fabricate a mount is a complete unknown to me. I would expect it to require a complete mounting system to be built from scratch. You may have fitment problems, hood interference issues, and so forth.

I would budget minimum of $150-200 for steel and fabrication expenses. That would mean you could have a front loader and a mower and come out a couple hundred bucks under what just buying a loader would run. I think that loader is basically a source for the bucket, lift arms, and hydraulic mechanism, which you will end up building everything else around. If you're looking to minimize fabrication time/effort, I don't think this is what you are looking for.

Without measurements, it is very difficult to know. If you got lucky, and don't mind it looking home made, I can see it being a simple process to construct a basic subframe and bolt/weld the loader onto the subframe, and be done in 6 hours worth of fiddling. I can also see it (like if I decided to try...) being a nightmare of welding upside down with 900 lbs of precariously balanced loader trying to squish me as I set stuff on fire with hot slag... I don't mind taking on big projects, and would rather save money by doing more work than the other way around, but I think this will be a big project. Maybe the seller could get some measurements and dimensions for you to get a better idea of what/how/if it will fit.

The additional question is how deep a money pit it will be. You'll need to source hydraulic power somehow, too, which will be an additional expense, it may need new hoses and seals, etc, and the valve may be worn or bad. I've always wondered why people take off their loaders in general. It just seems suspicious to me, seeing how much trouble they are to remove.

get some dimensions to see if it will fit roughly, ie width length pivot point to front cross bar etc. if these sound OK and the valve etc are included i'd jump on it.

With your patience, no doubt in my mind you could make it work. I have seen your skills with wood working. "If" the condition on the loader and finish mower is "good" I don't see how you could go wrong.

Post some pics and rough dimensions of the loader that way we can ponder this in detail and get back to you.

I can post pics of my loader mount for ideas if necessary it is simple enough and is probably very close to an exact fit on yours.

I cant say I would want to build one from scratch but it is well within a persons reach if they have the tools handy and a mind to do so.

Car Doc ...I think "the mind to do so" is the most difficult part

Although I have to say, if anybody has the determination to make something right, Domush gets my vote! He has really fixed his machine up nicely. His dashboard is especially lovely.

I would have given up in despair long ago.

I bought the FEL (680 miles round trip!). Sad (more like pissed) to say, the guy lied through his teeth as to the condition of it, it doesn't have down pressure and he sold the finish mower before I got there, after promising to hold them both  (fuming mad). I hate CL posters. The bucket is tiny and has a hay spear welded into it. I'll likely just make a new bucket or buy one, as this one doesn't seem worth salvaging. The rest of it may or may not work for my 336.

The good news (at least there is some) is there are three valves, not just two, so I can expand it to include a rear remote later on (wood splitter/hydraulic top link!).

I'd appreciate seeing some pics from those of you who have a 336 (or similar), as I'm not sure how the mount is supposed to attach. Anyone willing?

Oh, and the Lexington, KY area is beautiful. I've been pretty home bound since gas prices decided to go into orbit. Was nice to go on a road trip.

Must of not been to terrible if you still bought it.

Must have been clear on the other side of the state to go 300+ miles and still be in the same state.
