Will 10 Horsepower actually matter on the same size tractor?

It would probably depend on features on the tractor and what it will be used for. 8-10 hp less on the pto might make a difference. Other things are effected by less hp. Sometimes frame size, hydraulic capabilities and bucket or implement size. Not to mention weight. Also, the best time to buy enough hp is when you buy the first tractor for your needs. I wonder, if two tractor are the same size and one has less hp, doe it mean that one is under powered for the deisgn, or is the other one over power for the design? Best Wishes.

"Stock in general around here is very sad. Most of this is order only." Have you even sat on one yet?

"Funny side note, the massey dealer wouldnt even let me drive one." Then you can scratch them off your list.

I drove 2, neither were Kioti though. What are you supposed to do ya know? Wait till all this supply chain stuff is over? It may not be for a long time.

I completely understand Derp, I am in the same position. It's very frustrating at times. If it makes you feel any better I have been shopping for two years. I strongly advise you to go sit on one first and test drive it. A tractor can seem perfect on paper but terrible in real life. I experienced this with Deere's 2038R. There are tons of people who rave about them on this site but I wouldn't have one. Everything about them is uncomfortable and too cramped for me personally. This is a lot of money 🤑 that you will be spending so you need to make sure it's what you want and will be happy with.

There is very little that my 10 speed 42 HP diesel can't do BUT when things buck up a serious notch, my 10 speed 65 HP will walk through whatever it is that needs doing! Get the heaviest tractor you can find in the same HP rating when you know what you want because weight is what puts the HP on the ground.

Hi all, I wont lie, I am totally new to the tractor world. Very familiar with cars and trucks, not so much on tractors. But, I have been reading articles, posts, and watching videos like crazy for the past 2 months learning what I can as we shop tractors.

Lets take the Kioti NX4510 and NX5510 for example. Both HST. Same basic tractor, 10 more HP. Otherwise between the 2, its larger (wider) tires, and a better 3 pt hitch, thats it I think.

So does 10 Hp matter, say your using a decent sized PTO Snowblower in what the town plows leave behind after a 12" snow fall, is that 10 Hp noticeable?

What about if your just pushing snow around with a pusher box, will the extra HP and TQ help?

Is there other benefits of more HP other than running the PTO?

Have you ever in your 35 or 40 Hp tractor, wished you had 45 or 50 Hp?

Curious to hear everyone's opinions, thank you!

With more HP you also may get more hydraulic flow. This important with grapple work picking up tree trunks to cord. More horsepower won't bog down as quick when doing dirt (or snow) work. I run a JD3046R and occasionally wish I'd gone with the 4052.

I bought a 54 HP Massey instead of the 58 and every time I blow snow, I regret not spending a couple thousand more for the 58 HP.
Also, if you see a lot of snow blowing in your future, get a cab, HST, and a FRONT MOUNTED blower. i guarantee you won’t regret those options. The only downside to a cab is operating in the woods, but with care (and a pair of loppers) it can be done.

I think it's more important to compare torque than horsepower.

I have a different perspective on needs...my tractor is 22.5 hp with 19 hp at the PTO. The only time I found it lacking is when using my 60inch rear mount Woodmaxx snowblower in 21 inch heavy wet snow. Not lacking in what you might think either...I feel it needs to be bigger and heavier at times because I lose traction.

However...I love the smaller subcompact build of my GC because it's easier to use it around the property and it won't harm my lawn. Rear chains on the tractor helps tremendously so my HP, tractor size and weight ratio is just about perfect for me and I don't need more anything.

Diesel engines are not whimps and are designed to work hard. To much HP is a waste if you only wish you needed it 10% or less of the time. Besides more fuel consumption its also harder on the engine if it's just doing bare minimum work.

One exception is duty cycle...if your just using it to clear snow a couple of hours a storm then that's about right for a sub or compact tractor. Anything longer you may run into overheating hydraulics and the engine increasing wear and tear. Same goes for brush hogging a field.

Just my opinion....

Torque changes with gear selection.

HP is how fast you can get work done. HP already accounts for torque and adds a time element. Much better for getting an idea of what a machine can/cannot do
