It's been a long time since I've posted, but I found tractorbynet to be the best resource when I bought my Kubota M7040DT back in 2006. As it turns out, I couldn't have bought a more reliable tractor. I've been very satisfied with my tractor.

Since then, I've purchased a ZG327 mower. I am very satisfied with this purchase as well.

Now I've come to the point of wanting a cab tractor, due to the fact that my sinuses just can't take the dust associated with using a rotary cutter any more. I plan on remaining loyal to Kubota, but I have questions regarding dealer pricing.

I'd like an M7060 or M8560 with a cab, and of course 4WD. The new model improvements, mainly the EPA Tier IV requirements, have increased the prices of these over the 40-series by a good margin.

Now to the point: I bought the 7040 and the mower at two different dealerships located within 20 miles of my home. At the time, each dealer was not willing to negotiate whatsoever. Their response to my inquiry regarding price was "that prices is what the book says", or "that's the cheapest I can sell it to you for". Mind you, these prices were the only prices quoted to me, so I believe the intent was to convey to me, whether true or false, that I was getting the rock bottom price out of the gate. I just can't believe it. Talking about other dealership pricing did little more than to mildly insult the dealer I was speaking to.

So over the past eight years, I've invested roughly $35,000 in Kubota products. My questions for the experts are pretty straightforward:

Is it anything like buying an automobile? I know there isn't as much competition, so dealers may be content to hold tight to their asking price.

Would anyone be willing to share tactics on how to negotiate with my dealers? Considering I've paid full asking price for my last two purchases, I do think that some sort of concession is in order for my customer loyalty. Its very frustrating to be stonewalled on price.

Any and all comments and suggestions are appreciated.

You haven't really said whether the dealer asking price is the price that you find buy houngan to "build my Kubota" or list price. My 3 tractors in the past 3 years have been 13% to 15% off the list price. Dealers have not been willing to wiggle from there. My John Deere dealer came a straight 20% off list price. So - there is wiggle room off list price but both my Kubota dealer(who is also my New Holland dealer) and my John Deere dealer have not really been willing to dicker any more. One thing that I have to consider is that my Kubota dealer is 150 miles away and my Deere dealer is 120 miles away. Sale price includes transportation to my farm and although they have a decal that states warranty dies not cover transportation to the dealer, one of my neighbors did not have any problem getting the Kubota/New Holland dealer to transport his New Holland tractors back and forth when he suffered engine failures.

I never bought a tractor that big and I may not have gotten the best price available but I certainly never paid list price. I don't care how annoyed the dealer gets, I'm shopping around if he's charging full boat. Many people here talk about 10% to 15% discounts so there's a lot of money at stake here. Contact one of the big dealers that deliver (like Barlows) and get a price from them. It's your money, keep as much of it as you can!

Just one mans opinion, good luck!

Contact Barlows for a delivered price (I have 16 times) and go from there. You'll then know if your local dealer loves you for just your money or appreciates you as a respected and appreciated customer. Almost all new tractors are owned by Kubota and left on big and little dealers lots. All dealers pay the same price for the same tractor when the final call is made to Kubota to process the sale. State taxes and local recording fees can/will change the customer bottom line and Barlows only charges state taxes to Ky residents unless they sign farmer income from the tractor use statement.

There is always wiggle room. When buying mine I called several dealers. With the Kubota the guy I actually bought it from asked...Well is price the only thing you are going to think about when buying. I answered YES....the machines are all exactly the same, they are the same distance from my house, tell me what else I should think about....there was silence on the other end of the phone.

And after he gave me the price that he said was firm, he came down another $100. There is wiggle room in the machines, but that is determined on how the dealer does business....like in cars I would assume some play games others do not. And boy those car dealers play games (I once worked at corp. GM)

What I did was get some "intangibles" tossed in. Free pickup and delivery for my first service. Some free touch up paint. Just some little things. It shows me that the dealer is interested in working with me to make the sale, will listen to my needs and wants. I felt so strongly about my dealer doing a good job I gave them a shout out on here. I have also bought the quick attach bucket thingy from them and will buy my next things (wood chipper or new box blade) from them....even if they are a little more expensive they have now earned my business and I will be very loyal, and suggest their dealership to others.

I would do some more shopping if at all possible, sounds like you might have found two places that MIGHT be giving you the bottom line price right off the bat....but I would still do some checking around just to be sure.

ok its real simple and easy,go to kubota and build the tractor you want and get the prices.then go to your dealer and tell them this is what i want.i got my 7040su rops 4x4 and loader 2 sets of remotes for $34000.the build your own price was $41000.so i saved $7000.theres still a few 7040 cab and 8540 cab tractors around if you know where to look.i know 2 dealers here in texas that may still have some with cabs.or you could buy a used 1.

Know exactly which model and features you want and request quote, if each dealer has a model with something different you won't be comparing equally

The 50 hour service on these machines are expensive, get them to throw one in and you could consider that a very good deal
