Has anyone heard or have experience with widening out the rear wheels (extending out) on a L3400 will produce extra torque and stress on the axle and its bushings? I have steep hills and was trying to get a wider base underneath the tractor.

Thanks!

I would think that if you followed the reccomendations in the owners manual for changing offsets any premature axle or bearing failure would be under warranty.Ask your dealer to confirm.

I am not the expert, but I recall seeing here (somewhere) that only R-1 (AG) tires can be extended outward. Maybe somebody with the facts can reply.

I have R4's on my L3400 and the rears cannot be adjusted but the fronts can be flipped giving you 2 different widths for the front. also it puts the valve stems on the inside protecting this a bit more.

Hi Ranch:
I posed a similar but different question regarding widening the track width on my L4400 some time ago. Ag tires.
N80 gave me valuable advice. Do a search to find it.
Other good advice said not to widen the track any wider than the bucket is.
If you have places where maneuvering is tight, like around outbuildings or if you are working in the woodlot on narrow woods roads the 4 inches you would gain would be at some expense, perhaps at a distinct disadvantage.
I don't think there is detrimental stress introduced when the wheels are widened using factory rims. These things have been engineered on tractors for 75 years, and sized to work.

The manual for the L4400 has a chart showing all the available adjustments for width, I suspect the 3400 manual does too. As mentioned, I think this only works with r1s.

I have L3400 with Kubota loader. My book says "do not reverse front wheels to widen track" Says that it puts too much stress on the front axle. I widened my rear wheels as far as possible to make it more stable on hillsides.
