Great pics! I've told people that our grapples will work just fine to move rocks. Now we have proof!
Ted used his to move some rocks last week.....bet he didn't take any pics though.

They do move rock quite well, But I was surprised at how small of a rock I could move. You just have to be careful not to crush them. You "dump" the grapple straight down and you can still see the outside tines of the lid, and with your Hydrostat equipped tractor (works the best to creep) you creep up on the rock, slowly close the lid and lift straight up. It becomes intuitive after some practice. It works pretty much the same for large rocks also, and that technique also allows you to set a rock gently on the ground exactly where you want it. Just set it straight down positioned exactly where you want it by creeping forward or reverse or turning the wheel for left and right position. Gently lower the lift and let the rock settle before releasing the lid.

Very nice, one of those are on my wish list !.
I've been digging up and moving alot of boulders, a grapple would save me a lot of time transporting them.
I have a mech thumb on my backhoe, so I dig up the rock, grab it with the hoe, then leave it hang in the bucket by the thumb, get back in the tractor drive to where I'm putting the rock, get out, place it with the hoe...repeat.

Don't get me wrong, I'm having a good time doing it, but if I had a grapple to pick up and place rocks it would probably take a third of the time.

Well guys, unlike some "other kinds of envy", grapple envy can be fixed pretty easily:D A quick call to Travis at Everything Attachments, and he will fix you up. A grapple is just one more blade in the "jackknife", but it does bring a dimension that I have never had before. I have drooled over guys with backhoes moving and placing rocks, but now I can do it too. I moved a lot of rocks with forks, the last 2 years, but it is a lot more work to get things lined up and get under the rocks just right to balance them.. The grapple makes it easy, and you can actually set them down easily without all the getting off and man-handling, and using a bar to move them into place.

Yes it is.. got a deal on it when I purchased the tractor.. or at least they say I did.. it added $198 to the price. I like it.

Dean I haven't seen any this year, but we have them.. A couple of years ago I nearly got bit by a small one, as I was grabbing old leaves from around the porch. Had my hands within inches of the little fangey guy.. It was pretty interesting for a few seconds as I pinned him down until the wife got the shovel going. I think most of the time they just try to get away.. but I was kind of in his "favorite place" messing with the old leaves.

Found this little gem on our property. Wife was picking black raspberries, I think the scream she let out stunned it long enough for me to get ahold of it...

Nice grapple! I almost bought the EA Wicked Grapple this year. I haven't tried moving rocks with the unit I did buy but that will be next on my list.
Great Pics, its cool to see tractors in action.
