My brother paints tractors on the side. He just recently painted a 1949 Farmall BN for a gentleman that has double seats. The owner, who purchased the tractor not too long ago, my brother, and myself were all wondering why the BN came with double seats. Do any of you know?

That is a training seat like all the new AG tractors have lol . Actually a mod for shows , parades , etc . The offset makes it perfect for that , nice looking tractor .

Lot's and lot's of BN's have had seats "added" because there's an axle housing to sit on, for taking a passenger for rides, at tractor shows...

When I was a kid, dad would let me sit backwards on the housing when plowing, with his .410, and shoot the crows and starlings that would land behind the plow, for practice.

BTW, I still have THAT BN and one other too...

Thanks for the replies everybody. I'll pass this along to the owner and my brother. It makes sense now that the seat was used for training purposes. And it will be perfect for parades, shows, etc., which I'm sure is what the owner will be using the tractor in.

You do realize he was kidding you with that "training seat" line, don't you???

There was no such thing, back in the day for BN's!

Oh, okay. I thought he was serious about the "training seat" bit thing. It made sense to me. Oh well, another thought my brother had was it was added by newlywed farmers to ride their wives on.
