I have a 3.5 EcoBoost F-150 that gets 22 mpg on trips rural roads, 19 mpg Freeway at 75-80. I have a 6.0 PowerStroke F-250 that gets 14 rural roads, 12 Freeway. EcoBoost will pull much better than the diesel, but it seems to be a lot in the transmission. The EcoBoost will pull my tilt bed equipment trailer much more efficiently EMPTY - but put 3 ton on the trailer and the diesel will do better on fuel economy and has a better feel. Pit them against each other with the 3 ton load on the trailer and have a drag race - the EcoBoost will win hands down but my diesel has 210,000 miles while the EcoBoost is just broke in at 70,000. By the way, changing tire brand and style on the F-150 when the originals needed replacing slowed acceleration and cut fuel economy significantly, but will pull a 15,000# gravity box out of a grain field. The Michelin road tires on the F-250 are a farce when it comes to traction - I needed 4WD just to get my empty equipment trailer going, slight upgrade, wet grass. I assume its tires are made for mileage, not tractive effort.
