A couple weekends ago I finally made it out to our rural property to mow the trails for the first time this year. YIKES! The weeds were tall. Very tall. Very, very, tall... How tall? Look at this video.(kinda shaky cell phone video, but you'll get the point)

A tad over 12' tall! I cleared them down to the ground in ONE PASS!

That's why a brush hog should be out front, where it belongs. I can't imagine having to drive through them first, then mowing over them.

You could drive backwards. The main thing I don't like is eating(or breathing) the dust.

That's a good point, especially when your driving with a breeze that keeps the dust nicely packed in around you. I use a dust mask pretty often when i mow. I even started using a dust mask when cutting firewood too.

When I mow at night (with any Mower) you can really see the dust in the headlights. I never mow without a dust mask. I apologize for highjacking this thread. I do like having the mower in front. You can see exactly what you are doing.

When its dry I wear a dust mask, too. That stuff was pretty wet, so not much dust. I think I only sneezed about 10 times.

I like my brush cutter up front, and I like it behind as well.

When I used my buddy's tractor, we had the brush hog on the back and the bucket up front. The bucket would push all the weeds down (I had it angled and set so that it would push the weeds down and kinda 'smoosh' them) and the brush hog would then reduce them to mulch.

I do think that the traditional "brush cutter in back" is definitely less dusty in operation. Having the brush cutter in back makes it harder to do any maneuvering, as you have to back up to things... like the fence line, for example.

At any rate, both methods work fine. I like the PT because it is easy to connect/disconnect and easy to switch to another tool.

Sincerely,

Rob :)

I have a bi-directional tractor for this reason. Just turn the operators consul around to suit the job and save your back.
