Bought a great piece of property with 4.5 acres but one problem, it is in a flood plain. The previous owner spent big bucks which keeps the creek from flooding the place but this made a pool for standing water. I will be digging alot of ditches, YEEHAW. I will attempt at putting some pics of my water problem, well not a problem now it is an oppurtunity to use my BH. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Some of these pics look really bad but the water didn't get under the house. The house has been there for 170 years so I am not too worried, but I really want to move this water faster by either french drains or drains to sevreal sump pumps. Hehe, look at those stupid G-hens on the fence.

I really don't see this as a problem but an opportunity to use my tractor. This past week it rained as much as last month but the water didn't come over at the bridge because I added some RR ties. I also had 2 sump pumps running which kept the springhouse water down. I am sure with the right ditches and drains I will not have to worry about this water. The house was built in 1830, has 12 inch brick interior and exterior walls. Folks have lived there execpt for a 10 year span 1920-1930. I was told it flooded almost every year until the former owner had engineers make a dike and a 20 foot wide ditch that I aspect saved me from flooding when these pics were taken. This pic shows the flood water and standing rain water, this is as close as it got to the house.

LOL 238 views of this post, and no replies. I reckon folks are living by "if ya aint got somethin' nice to say, then say nothin at all." I also understand people come here lookin for answers to their questions, so I will refrain from posting these pics and taking up the webmasters space. I just think they are some awsome pics, and hopefully my work will make it to where I won't see this mess again. One more pic tho without the water.

No replies 'cause you didn't asked a question. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif We're just enjoying the pictures. Place looks real nice 'cept for that water. I know I couldn't get my wife to live there, she's scared of water. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Every place we've ever lived has been at the top of a hill. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I would say if you got the desire and time, then that is great. Besides you have to have some things to do with these toys, and you might as well do what you enjoy. That is a nice looking old house. You don't find them like that anymore. Looks like you'll have a nice place if you can get the water under control, and heck even if you don't it is still nice, just with seasonal lawn use....LOL

I am interested in seeing some of these projects as they proceed. I will be keepin an eye out for those progress reports..........

Good Luck

I don't know squat about drainage and handling water but I am certainly enjoying the pictures. 238 views should tell you that lots of other folks are too, otherwise they wouldn't be looking! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
