Why don't they use Buddy Bearings on tractors?

Heck, the 8 inset zerks at the bucket end of my loader's arms already look about like a Buddy Bearing.

Wonder why they don't use them where possible ...

Bearing Buddys probably don't do what you think they do. Most poeple think you just pump in grease every once in a while. That's not how they work. There's a good reason they don't use them on tractors.

Bearing Buddies ... that's what I meant :thumbsup: :laughing:

I have them on my boat trailer. You fill them up & then a spring continues applying pressure to the grease so the bearings stay greased. That's the way I understand it anyway.

How do you think they work? Or why wouldn't that work for tractors?

One big problem with them is so many people just keep pumping grease into them, eventually blowing out the seal. Not really the fault of the Bearing Buddy, but I think a completely sealed bearing is a better idea on equipment.

All this time I thought my boat trailer had genuine Bearing Buddy brand bearing buddies, but since this discussion I went out & looked & took the pic below.

As you can see mine say "Trailer Buddy Axles by UFP." You can also see in both pics that they have a blue ring you can monitor; If you still see blue, you're grease level is good, & if you can't see blue & when you push on the chrome cap it won't move, it's time to add grease.

These would sure be nice on tractors :thumbsup:

A little pumping on the grease gun 'til I see a bulge in the boot or a bit of grease squeeze out at a simple pivot isn't really as big deal. Would a bearing buddy be nice? I suppose so, but going around and greasing the various fittings is a good way to keep your equipment inspected. It forces you to look in places you might not think about and maybe even catch a small problem before it gets big... maybe even dangerous.

I think that maybe he was refering to the grease running out the back side of the wheel, at the axle. Over filling and or the pressure can really slick down the inside. I just try to add grease after 10 hours use, or when it appears to need it on fel. maybe I mis-understood just where you wanted to install it, or use it. I have had several brands on my trailers in the past.? u
