Why do you live where you live?

I live in CT simply because it is such a joy to work from JAN-MAY just to pay the taxes in this state. CT is liberal state so i fit right in. If you don't want to work no problem we have a program for that. Simply fill out the paper work and we will send you a monthly check thanks to the suckers that work the first few months of the year to pay taxes in order to pay for those that simply don't want to work. How long do all of you really think one state can keep this up???? God forbid you have an ATV and want to ride it. You can register it and pay taxes on it but you can't ride in the state forest because some bird my not be able to get its beauty sleep. In our last great choice as a state we put in a bus line (over $500 million) so that the homeless will have new benches to rest on. I could keep going on and on. As you can see i am not a big fan of this state. The season changes are great. My family is all here for the most part. The big reason i am here is because i was born and raised here and don't really know any better. Will i be able to retire here? Never unless i want to be 80 still swinging a hammer so someone else can sit at home watching tv getting nice and plump waiting for Thanksgiving to come around so they can get a free turkey.
God bless America:thumbsup:

Sounds awful! How are the gun laws?

I'm surprised that the majority of posters here are from the Eastern US. I've only been east of the Mississippi several times, but when I've been back there it seems like it gets pretty crowded, so I'm guessing that most of you from there who read this forum are glad to have a little spot that's not quite so populated.

My zip code has under 300 people in it. The county is 6,000 sq miles with 30,000 plus folks living in it with most of them being 'takers' over in Espanola 90 miles away. Both sides of my family came to west Texas after the civil war and my folks have been in New Mexico since the early 1900's having homesteaded here around 1914. I can't imagine living somewhere without the mountains and deserts. But what do I know... I'm just an old desert rat.

This is very interesting! Oosik, man, wha' a lake on ye place on Washington! 80' deep?! Reminds me of what the old South Carolina writer, Havilah Babcock said, "In the north, lakes were made by God. In the south, they were made by democrats".

Sodamo, yep, ye've got quite a nice little pond over beyond ye cement one!

I love about everyplace y'all boys have listed here! Best raw oyster I ever had was in San Diego. I love New Orleans, San Francisco (every man is allowed to love two cities. His home town and San Francisco.), Seattle, Portland, never been to Maine, but want to go. I love a heap of places I've been! Reckon I'll be staying here near Augusta, Georgia though. I'm in woods, so like that. Keep'em coming boys.

In Canada you pretty much have the same tax structure, politics, climate , diversity from coast to coast, its especially true when it comes to rural areas. Québec is a little different as it is mostly french and somewhat more socialist than most other provinces but not that much really.

Americans have so many more choices
