Why do metric sockets come in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive?

Why don't they come in metric measurement drives in countries that use the metric system?

So you can use them with both inch “SAE” and metric sockets. They buy inch “SAE” machinery like we buy metric machinery.

It's a conspiracy by the tool makers to keep it so some things are still manufactured with inch standard sized bolts etc...

I’ve got farm tractors with mixed fastener sizes, metric and inch. I’d go nuts having to remove a large assembly having to use 2 different socket wrenches for metric and inch.

I've got a 19mm torque stick for my 1/2" drive Milwaukee 18v impact wrench.

Actually 1/4 -3/8 - 1/2 drive stuff IS metric.

Just call it 6.35mm drive - 9.525mm drive - and 12.7mm drive respectively

As I recall, my table saw has metric size heads and nuts nuts on SAE threaded bolts.

there was a british car that came with different sized wheelnuts for front and rear then just to complicate it further left and right hand threads on opposing sides

Actually, your ratchets are not 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch,,,
they are 6mm,,10mm, and 13mm,,,,

Us in the USA just use the wrong name for them,,,
