Why did my oil filter blow off on my Massey Ferguson 1010.

I was using my Massey when I stopped to look at something and brought it down to an idle and the oil filter came off. I backtracted where I was driving and did not find a oil trail. The filter will not rethread back on tight, but the threads on the block look good. could something be plugged? I'm stumped!

You didn't tighten it down and got lucky. There is a bypass in both the pump and filter if flow is blocked in the filter or engine.

That's my best guess!
