Why are we still using ethanol?

Must be nice to live in a state where you can BUY non-ethanol gas.
Around here IF you can find it, it's called "RV GAS" and cost just under $5/Gal.
State mandated E10 is $2.30 or less.

I can't prove it but do believe E10 has cost me at least three chainsaws so far.

I am glad ethanol if readily available. Due to the low pricing, my 2015 Chevy 2500 6.0 has been on E85 exclusively for almost 2 years.

I filled up the other day for $1.12 a gallon. It got as low as $.99 for a couple of weeks. Murphy station in Newton, Iowa. Pump price with no discount.

My 2500 averages about 10 mpg on the stuff. So right now the cost per mile is 11 cents a mile. For my 3/4 ton pickup to get 11 cent per mile fuel cost using regular non ethanol gas, it would have to average almost 21 mpg. That is not ever going to happen. Even on E10, it would have to average 19 mpg to get 11 cents per mile fuel cost. Again, not going to happen. A Diesel 3/4 ton would have to average almost 26 mpg for all miles to get 11 cents per mile fuel cost. Again, not going to happen anytime soon.

Been using various blends of ethanol since it started being available in the late 70's. My 1974 Pontiac used E10 all the time after it started being at the pumps. Car had 250,000 miles on it when it died of body cancer. Motor was still good. No carburetor or fuel system problems.

I am an advocate of letting people choose if they want to or don't want to use the stuff as they see fit.

That is strange. Both Murphys site and gas buddy show absolutely nothing cheaper than $1.79 at either that store or the entire area.
I guess the prices went up almost 80% in a month....

I heard when I was in one of the Stihl dealers that a station in Kingston WA added ethanol free, I do not know what grade. That is the second station in the county for me, the first one has regular grade. Also marinas and membership stations have it, but they are not handy. 2 neighboring counties have premium ethanol free.

Can get it down in Chehalis WA too. At Cenex on State ave.

I notice that a couple of Sunoco stations here are ethanol free, with regular grade @89 and 90 octane. And a bunch of other stations have it available, in premium grades. I always use the high octane grade in my saws and small engines.

Cenex in Poulsbo WA has ethanol free, good for Cenex. I frequent them often for all my 4 stroke air cooled engines gas and for my Toyota FJ (which I do not drive a lot). For the 2 strokes, I get ethnaol free premium up in Sequim or down in Belfair. It will be interesting to see what the station in Kingston has.

Found another station with ethanol free gasoline, that's just opened up in Grand Mound Washington. Just off the interstate.

Here is a site which lists places selling ethanol free gas.
The link will bring you straight to the list for Washington state but once getting there you can check other states.
I have found that they don't list everyplace where it's available, but this will give you a start. (The site I used to visit which was always up to date has disappeared, or I just can't find it.)

This is the site I use. You can change states on the bar above the list.

Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada

It also has a map feature to locate a station near you

That's the one. I don't know why I couldn't find it. They seem to be pretty accurate.
