Why are we still using ethanol?

It is just like EVERY government program. It does not mater what the reason was that it started for, it will NEVER end.

Except for the recent tax cut for the rank and file. It's sunsetted. (Can I say that on here?)

your tax dollars at work ! This is the biggest scam to date !
I can remember when the government came around my area back in the 70's and 80's offering buy outs to all the small local dairy farmers. All I knew sold out

Or, maybe not. There is lots of evidence, that the earth is making more oil.
The earth is also making more people. And, they will need to be fed.
The supply of corn is more finite than oil. Ethanol is not the answer.

Thank you.

No - kenmac, it's not the scam that worries me. The program of ethanol has gone on long enough that the farmers have bought in. If we opt out now, and EVERYBODY knows we should, a whole lot of farmers could be left holding their bags. There would have to be some other form of subsidy for the farmers. The crying & moaning, whining and weeping would go on forever.

Ethanol is one of the biggest farcical programs ever put on the back of the public. Why not just grind the corn - bag it - sell it to countries that need FOOD. People are starving by the tens of thousands in foreign countries and we are "wheeling" on their potential food supply.

Politics is far worse than a four letter word. It is the very breath of the Devil himself.

I step down...........

If we got out, the same way we got in. In stages, and over time. And, with the government subsidizing the departure. It could be done without a lot of pain, with simply reducing the amount of ethanol each year, by a small percentage.

The problem would be getting both political parties to agree we are better off without it. The amount of money involved here, makes that impossible.

I question that 40% of our corn crop goes to Ethanol?? Can someone show me accurate data in that regard?

Almost every product we buy is somehow connected to the price of corn.

Including packaging. At least some of those foam peanuts are corn based.

In the mean time, if you can buy boat gas somewhere near you, it's still ethanol free. And, a lot cheaper, than those premix quarts.

For now.
