Why are JD 1025 ROPS taller then all others in class?

I have a 7 door, and the 1025r ROPS are 87 tall, thus need to fold up and down every time I go in and out. Yet the Kobota, MF, Kioti, and so on are under 84? so don’t have to fold. So hard to believe they could not lower 4” and still maintain safety.

Are they all measured with the same type tires? Turfs can lower your height.

ROPS are designed with a specific criteria to protect the operator as best they can. The various heights would be caused by differences in chassis. Tire height would be one small factor in the equation.

Maybe post a picture of your 1025 from the side with you in the seat? Then we can discuss what protection the extra height is offering you?

I'd hate to have your situation. I would have already bashed it into the door header by trying to drive in with it up.....

Tried to find a pic of a 1025 in my archives but don't have one. Hafta use a 2305.

I drew a crude line from the top of the ROPS to the front of the hood. The area under that blue line is your safe zone. Hard to confirm without an operator. But it doesn't appear the ROPS could be much shorter and still offer a safe zone.

That's why I asked for a pic of your 1025 with you in the seat.

If I remember correctly, when the 2210 and/or 2305 came out (I can't remember which one applies here) it had a short ROPS. Then a backhoe became an option and guys were complaining of bumping their head on the ROPS. So Deere made a taller one just for the tractors that also had a backhoe. So for a year or 2, purchasers had their choice, a short or tall ROPS. Then the short one went away and the folding ROPS was standard on all of them.

I didn't know that. My 2210 is an '04 model I think, can't remember for sure. It's a rigid ROPS.

Pssssttt,,,, don't tell the Safety Police but I took it off. Got tired of it hooking and breaking low tree limbs while mowing.

I have a serious concern of it becoming a lever/handle to raise the nose of the tractor unexpectedly. I've nipped off most smaller branches and limbs in the sub 90" danger zone, but there are a few larger ones if I get too close.
