Last night I noticed what looked like a dog relieved himself on the corner of my dock. Upon closer inspection there was a whole mouse mixed in the pile. I can't tell which end of an animal it came out of. Before I put it on the canoe paddle it was not broken up at all. Any thoughts what might have left it on my dock? Fox? Owl?

Not much into scatology, but I don't think it's an owl pellet. Owl pellets are regurgitated and will generally have nothing but bones and fur left; this looks like the mouse is partially intact, and has been through the digestive system. There's lots of stuff on the internet about owl pellets, like this:

From here on it's just a guess, but I'm betting you may be pretty close with a fox. Got any Sasquatch in your area?

Or a snake.

Interesting- swallowed whole. Not digested much but the hair has sloughed off. Doesn't look chewed at all........ really weird.

I'm not a wild life biologist- didn't even stay the night in a "holiday inn express" last night.

Can you contact a local extension service or fish and game officer?
