why the spiders are a blast to ride ? I don't get it ...

Okay. I'll try to answer your question. The Sypder has a left grip - paddle upshift, automatic or manual paddle downshift. Never have your feet on the ground until you reach your destination. Runs great in grass, gravel, sand and dirt as well as pavement. Reverse is a pushbutton that shifts the transmission gearing and you control reverse speed with the throttle. Park it anywhere. Unlike three wheelers with rear wheels, they hug corners tight and not prone to flipping over. Front tires don't wear prematurely. With a 1300cc- three cylinder engine and 125 horsepower you can exceed any speed limit quickly. Passing is a breeze. The RT is the model designed for touring with a comfort seat and power steering, heated grips, and heated seat. One Frunk, one trunk, two saddle bags for overnight bags.

I don't want to come across as a hater but it sound just like driving a car to me, like a Miata ...or a polaris slingshot which I agree they are both a blast but they both can comes in with standard transmission and they have to be for me to love them if not its like mehs ... a lot of the fun for me in driving a motorcycle is the peace, the smell, the changing temperture in different areas which you get all that on a spyder I agree but furthermore it's the connection with the road (road feedback) leaning through the corners, the clutch and going through the gears and the sound/different tone of the exhaust.

It's the visceral experience for me too. Deep leaning into a curve. Timing your braking, acceleration and shifts. The three wheeled machines I'm sure are fun, but it would never compare to two wheels, for me. At 120hp and curb weight of 400lbs... It just leaves me laughing.

I could see where they are a good alternative though. My wife has ridden cruisers/HD since the late 1970's. With a bad knee, she could ride again on a trike; a Spyder looks like a good option.

100% I am not judging at all, there are advantage, it's just the claim has been made a few times that spyders are a blast to drive which almost sounded more then a motorcycle I simply wanted to know why.

In my experience with both, cast are noticeably lighter than spoke wheels. Spoke wheels are stronger against impacts but also get out of true over time. If spoke wheels were lighter they would be on moto gp bikes.

Moto GP bikes use magnesium wheels. And they spend a lot time tuning rigidity (or deliberate lack of) in the wheels, swing arm, and chassis.

Steel rim spoked wheels are heavy.

A lot of buyers give preference to a factory trike over the retrofit companies.

An older friend bought a Spyder when he dropped his Deauville twice one day in parking lots.

Loves it but hates simple services such as changing the oil.

Yes mags are even lighter than aluminum cast. Generally basic cast are lighter than basic spoke or steel wheels, and high end cast are lighter than high end spoke. And cast stay true and are tubeless.

There is that factor/reality to consider.

I bicycle along a mixed road-route, north of me, up to a park I ride through. Time catches up with all of us, eventually. Stopped one day, to look at an older Gold Wing with a Sale sign - ended up having a great chat, with the couple who had spent decades riding it. He was an Olympic-class distance runner, and still looked very fit, but they were selling this much loved and well taken care of Wing because of the weight - he'd never dropped a bike (despite street racing some fast-for-the-day British stuff, way-back when they first met), and didn't want to start now.

They LOVE touring 2-up, so had bought a gorgeous late-model Gold Wing trike, and will be running the roads in that .

These aren't really my thing (at least at this stage of my riding), but I can see the positive attributes they bring to the table.
