To go a step farther, I have a very cool little old car that gets 48mpg. It looks sporty, fun to drive, and thanks to the .gov we can't have this anymore.

My 1200 Super Tenere is usually in the 40+ mpg range but if I keep the speed at or below 65 it often gets over 50mpg.

They were imported in the late 60's, a whopping 850 cc engine and a galloping 50 hp. Plus you had to have tiny feet to operate the pedals. Even barefoot I had trouble not getting the brake and clutch with the same foot at the same time. Put them in the same category as the Triumph Spitfire and the MG Midget but even smaller. Fun toys but too tiny. Now no way in heck could they even think about safety and crash tests and ratings.

lol yeah no, I work in a mining camp, so I stay there for 14 days straight then I go home for 14 days. So it's 746 miles round trip but only once a month.

But where's the fun in driving a Prius???

You are absolutely correct, though. I haven't been on a road bike in years but my brother tells me his Honda Goldwing is lucky to break 30 mpg. Airport rental gave me a Prius to drive for a week, it averaged 52 mpg! And it had a roof for when it rains, heat for when it was cold and ac for when it was hot!
I had a GL1800 when I purchased a Prius. Quit riding the Goldwing 10 miles to work. Jacket, gloves, helmet, garage door, lots of time for a 10 mile ride when I could just jump in the car and go at 50+ MPG on tires that cost same to replace 4 at 40,000 miles as 2 on Goldwing at 8,000 miles.

If your brother is getting 30 MPG I suspect someone has disconnected his battery then on restart revved the engine. When battery is reconnected the GL1800 needs to be started cold hands-off the throttle for at least 90 seconds. You will hear the engine hunt for tune then smooth out. Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. Reconnect. Start. Should put him much closer to 40 MPG. Extend life of O2 sensors and spark plugs. Mine got 42 at 70 MPH like clockwork. Also 42 on my low speed commute. Near 50 once on Blue Ridge Parkway, 100 miles at 40 MPH in a big group.
