Nice ride yesterday... Pidgeon Forge, out Wears Valley to the Foothills Parkway, to 129... thru Deals Gap to the Tail of the Dragon gift shops, turned around and back the way we came... pleasant ride, good day for it too. Not alot of traffic, were back to Pidgeon Forge by 1pm. The Foothills Parkway was nice, great views, no traffic to speak of, open enough to be a comfortable ride, but enough turns to not be boring. We both had a good time...

My wife and I went for a ride this morning on our Harley Ultra Classic. Cruising along 5 or 6 miles West of Archie, MO I saw a deer out of the corner of my eye, a split second later it crossed the road in front of us! I barely had time to hit the brakes, and missed his rump by a fraction of an inch.
We stopped for lunch in Harrisonville at Mi Bella Puebla Mexican Restaurant, as we gave thanks for our food we also thanked God for his hand of protection.

I ride almost everyday. Deer here in Illinois are always a concern. I lost a friend a few years ago to a deer crossing into his path. My usual haunts in Texas are not quite so bad but definitely they are still a concern. Gotta keep our heads on a swivel to avoid them as much as we can and wear his-vis clothes to be seen to the typical cage driver. It is not always enough but we do what we can and accept some risks to do what we want to do. Giving thanks for a safe ride is important.

A few days over a year since I got my current bike... 2003 Suzuki Intruder vl1500 LC... noticed on the way home from work this evening that I've put just over 4300 miles on it in that time. 90% of that is simply getting to work and back at 54 miles a day, any possible chance, as long as the temp was 35° or higher, and not raining! The handful of 'pleasure rides' I've gotten to take with my wife, though most just backroads around our home, did include a jaunt thru Deals Gap (aka the Tail of the Dragon) in the Smokey Mountains when we vacationed there about a month ago.

It's been a good bike so far... done nothing to it other than an oil change, aside from some comfort items like a backrest and handle bars. Gonna need a back tire soon! Here's to many more years on a great bike!

Wow, that thing is really a wolf in sheep's clothing. Costs more than I imagined too. Lots of technology. Similar to Ducati, and very comparable, possibly better in ways.
