Who rides motorcycles?

Nice ride George. My last bike was an 01 Ultra one owner with 15K miles. Jade green and black loaded with chrome. Best bike I've ever owned. I think that was number 9. I love motorcycles and hope with an upcoming hip and knee replacement I can get into a trike later.

I've had my cycle license for 45 years now and there were very few years I didn't own a bike. I bought mine from a friend who hasn't been able to ride it for the past 2 years due to a MV accident. He is back to work but still has a lot of pain. He hated to part with it but didn't want to see it sit idle. He is considering whether to get a trike or give up riding. Personally, I think he'll get the trike.

Thought I'd revive this thread.
Just picked up my new ride. 2002 Harley Electra Glide Ultra Classic. 17,000 miles. Has been well taken care of.

AND - not only did you get a good price, but you also got free-of-charge a ton of extra goodies, i.e. pipes, windshield bag, luggage rack, and who knows what else. Also, it's a Delphi fuel injected not MM. Super deal. Congrats.

I just bought a lightly used and well farkled 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere that I plan to ride cross country at the end of this summer. Bike is now garaged in Seattle area and I plan to do a big sweep up to Jasper/Banff then down to MT, WY, CO and across the great plains via KS, OK, AR, TN to Ashville NC before riding the Blue Ridge Mts back towards Boston. Plan to alternate camping and motels. I will essentially be recreating in reverse a cross country trip I did by motorcycle after I finished college many moons ago. I'm calling this my bucket tour. Going solo and looking forward to the trip.

I haven't ridden much in the past twenty years and it is quite interesting to see how much motorcycling technology, especially the electronics, has changed. I've always had big shaft drive bikes (last one a 1994 BMW100rt) so that is the same but the Tenere (an "adventure bike" modeled after the BMW GS) has ABS, Traction Control, linked brakes (apply front and the bike applies about half of the rear brake by itself to maintain stability), electronic control of throttle so you can choose how quickly it responds, all sorts of extra LED lighting, GPS, a helmet mounted bluetooth system to allow wireless communication with phone, gps, passenger and other bikes with in half a mile, it even has cruise control and a USB port!

Yeah, it's crazy the amount of technology on motorcycles these days. I sat on a new Goldwing last summer at my local dealer, and it had so many buttons and switches mounted all over that I didn't even know what most of them did. Makes my '85 Interstate seem like a Fred Flintstone bike.

My first bike was a Yamaha 400 Special II. Actually my very first vehicle. Next bike was a Honda Silverwing GL500. Then had a Honda Magna 750. And a Rokon if you count that; hahaha. My new ride is very different for me, but I love it the most so far I think. Went the direction of dual sport so I can use it hunting in Colorado, riding the mountains here, or breaking off on the trails or forest service roads whenever I want. Really fun.

Those look like a whole lot of fun. Wouldn't want to do 400 miles a day on one though!

Island when you hit the Blue Ridge Parkway you will be a little over an hour from my house at the Boone-Blowing Rock entrance. Give me a shout and we could do dinner or lunch if possible. My treat of course.

No, you're right; 385 miles a day on it is my absolute limit!!

Seriously, the most I've put on in a day so far is close to 180 miles, but most of that was mountain miles so a lot of actual seat time. It can be hard on the hiney. Find myself moving forward and backward on the seat to readjust periodically as you get deep into the ride. On the trails, I stand up frequently enough to change pressure areas. I would not take this bike on a cross country trip, but would trailer it or put it in the truck to take it anywhere.
