My mind keeps writing checks my body can't cash.

This one has my attention as well!

I also have a V85TT and *love* it. One of my favorite bikes ever was a 1991 BMW R100GS and the V85 reminds me a lot of it, only better in almost every way.

Like the Airhead it's air cooled, simple, easy to work on, all day comfortable, and comes with shaft drive, large tank, and tubeless wheels. Even better it also comes with cruise, LED lighting, switchable traction control and ABS, and much better brakes. And by today's standard they're not expensive.

today little rip, I haven’t been there in years (about 17 of them) and last time was with a 2wd truck, not the same ride at all, few creek crossing and slippery clay wet spots, I almost dropped it but didn’t… I haven’t drop it yet, it will happen one day… ces la vie and I am surprise it hasn’t yet… the tire is getting dull.

I'm sort of partial to the Guzzi LeManns

I picked these brochures up from Harry’s Motors in Denver… in the early eighties IIRC… back when all I could do was lust after just about every bike in the showroom…

A dual-sport in the wild...... :):):)

I think you already have engine guards (little tough to see in those pics), but if you are looking for anything, I like the T-Rex I put on last year. Not inexpensive to land in Kanada, but what is.....

Not my pic (factory one), but my KLX is the same setup..... I went with their bash-plate too - I like it because it is longer, upswept @ rear, to protect the lower dogbone.

The crash bars are more of a wide street style, which is not for some, but work for me

I'm in the market... for a light weight dual sport... to augment my Big GS Adventure...

Top two contenders:

Honda CRF300L Rally
Kawasaki KLX300

Been watching a ton of YouTube videos on them, they are very close in performance. I do like the Honda's display better, and either bike will have to have suspension upgrades based on my size. I think the Honda is edging out just based on aftermarket support and known quality.

Unfortunately, all I can do is just sit on them, no test rides.

I take it you've watched Ian's reviews? I'm pretty sure he reviewed both bikes.
I like the Rally's larger tank.

That is the one big drawback to the KLX, as it has the stock dirt-bike's tank. Racks and a 5L Chinarotopax make it work for me.
