I was wondering if anyone recognized this post hole digger? what brand and if it is worth 400.00 or not. It is still new.

It looks similar to the diggers sold at TSC. I think they might be SpeeCo brand? They are $450 plus $140 for the auger. Your picture doesn't show the yoke for the frame or the PTO shaft. Assuming you get both of those I think it is a fair deal.

Looks like a farm force sold by Tractor Supply. I have one. Bought it last month for $469.00 plus $119.00 for each auger.
I've dug about 50 holes so far with no issues but I would consider it light / medium duty.

I am looking at that one and then the small Danuser with an 8in and 10in auger for 350.00 used of course.

I'm not sure how the soil is where you live but I have about 5 inches of topsoil and then red clay. If you have any clay, trust me when I say be ready when the auger hits it. It's like the ground tries to swallow the auger and my PHD does not have reverse. Then it's a pipe wrench and a cheater bar.
If you can find one with reverse, it's worth it!!!

That is why I lower SLOWLY !
I have my lowering speed set to about 5 seconds, but I lower the 3 pt position lever a bit at a time.
If ever I get ahead of the auger it only drops a few inches when it grabs before the lowering hydraulics slows it again. This breaks it out from only a few inches of hard dirt.
You should NEVER let an auger screw itself into the ground, it should always be pulling dirt UP - big difference.
I've seen guys back augers out with a pipe wrench, too much chance of bending it IMO.
I wouldn't use one that had been screwed into the ground and backed out with a pipe wrench - and I don't have to.
