Who has a real windmill?

In my area very few windmills actually pump water any more.

A neighbor wanted a windmill over fifty years ago and paid several visits to my grandfather because he'd seen the one at the farm erected and had maintained it. The neighbor finally found one, restored it, and had it set up with a large wrecker truck. He and his wife drilled a well with a type of hand auger often often used to dig post holes. He got enough water to satisfy his urge to have a working windmill and I think it's still there.

My parents bought a new windmill with a generator on it from Sears Roebuck in 1931 when they started to build their home. The power company put power in the area about the same time it was delivered so it was never used. About 30 years ago I gave the generator portion to a friend of mine. The only parts I have left are the X galvanized cross braces for the tower. They have been setting on the garage floor and then on the ground in the barn for the last 90 years and still look like they are brand new.

I just returned from a cruise in the United Kingdom and there were spots in the ocean where you could see over 300 of those new wind generators. Many far out at sea. It is amazing that they can transport the electricity back to shore.

Good time to sell them, with the recent runup in steel prices. My dad bought a scrap radio tower years ago, and we are still making things out of it.

Been putting one together, Monitor head and and a pieced together stand from 3 different ones. Square bolts and nuts are a blast especially inside angle irons. Lots of PB Blaster and Kroil.
36' from ground to top of wheel. Not going to be operational as in pumping water, I'll be able to put it in gear for fun only.
Silly things grab my attention when I see them still standing and always wanted one.
(Yes! The Wife thinks I'm nuts)
